Aerosol Generators
Milholland & Associates is developing low output aerosol (oil based agents) generators for use with particle counters during filter integrity testing. In-situ testing of filters using a particle counter enables one to test with aerosol challenges that are on the order of 100x less than that typically used for a photometer. The undesired loading performance of ePTFE media when using high concentrations of PAO or similar agents can be mitigated by limiting filter exposure to these challenge materials.
In addition to the filters, air handling units are also exposed to significantly less aerosol which helps reduce the accumulation of liquid agents in these systems and their components. Our work is currently focused on producing a low output generator that will enable the stable production of liquid aerosols from less than 0.25 μg/liter in 135 cfm of air to concentrations on the order of 25 μg/liter in 135 cfm of air.
